Name as it appears on your Birth Certificate:
Gregory Robert Young
If you could change your name to anything it would be:
Dr. Kenneth Noisewater, Mrs Margaret D. Merriwether
Birthday:
April 23, 1982
Age:
25
Hometown:
Kenmore, WA (where courtesy is contagious)
Favorite Color:
any shade of blue
Favorite Word:
I had a receptionist ask me today if I wanted to add gratuity to the bill, only she pronounced Gratuity by saying Gratituey (rhymes with the hit movie Ratatouille which graced the silver screen in the summer of 2007). So yeah, I think Gratituey is my favorite word.
Favorite Person in History:
the Micro Machines guy, Reginald vel Johnson (the guy who played Carl Winslow on Family Matters), and the guy that invented bubble wrap.
If you could be any animal, what would it be and why:
Dolphin...or maybe a shrew. I don’t feel the need to explain myself.
Top 5 favorite movies:
The Sandlot, Saving Private Ryan, The Usual Suspects, Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, Young Guns 2
Worst 5 movies of all time:
All Dogs Go to Heaven, Moulin Rouge, AI, Almost anything with Cuba Gooding Jr, Anything with Brendan Fraser
Favorite Tunes:
Chuckanut Drive (best band of all time), Bob Dylan, BB King, Creedance, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, most Country and Classic Rock, Jack Johnson or anything mellow.
Whos hotter: Barbara Streisand, Meryl Streep, Whoopi Goldberg, or Rosie ODonnel:
If I’m being honest, Barbara Streisand
Favorite Food(s):
Mexican, all types of Seafood, cinnamon sugar doughnuts, peppermint ice cream, cherry turnovers, a really good steak, and coffee.
Least Favorite Food(s):
Most Dog food, that marshmallow/fruit jello that people make around the holidays, I can’t handle spicy stuff.
Gnarliest Injury:
I bit thru my lip a few times, some bruised ribs, torn rotator cuff, and torn meniscus in my knees. I’ve also hurt my feelings a few times and pulled both my right inductor spliff and my upper nimbus.
Best Accomplishment in Your Sport:
I was on WWU’s wakeboard team when we won the National Championship in 2003.
If you could travel to one place on Earth, where would it be, why would you go, and if you could only take one person who would it be:
Tough one. Either Costa Rica, Baja, Indonesia, Thailand, most places in South America or anywhere tropical with good waves. I’d probably take my buddies Zack, Jared, Spencer, and Brent, unless a hot girl comes along and captures my heart, mind, and soul.
Couldnt Live Without:
I’ve got to live near water . Not necessarily in sight of it, but I think I’d feel almost claustrophobic if I wasn’t within at least driving distance to an ocean or lake. Other than that, I definitely couldn’t live without a flexible schedule so if something better than work comes up I can try to take advantage of it.
Hobbies:
Surfing, Wakeboarding, Boating, Swimming, Snowboarding, Hiking, Reading, Writing, Hockey, playing with the dog, Eating, Sleeping, Road Trips, Traveling, Gardening, Drawing, and trying to start a collection of vintage beach cruisers.
What else do you do to pay the bills:
I work for Red Bull and occasionally install hardwood floors. I also took some time off last year and sold 100 used King Size mattresses (I’m being serious, there’s a good story behind that one).
Other sponsors:
Not my own personal sponsors, but thanks to: Malibu Boats, Titan Wake Accessories, Extreme Trailers, Westwinds, Hyperlite, Slingshot, Bakes, DieCutStickers.com, Wakeboardnorthwest.com, BFY Productions, Scratch Films, and WIT Productions for helping to sponsor the Tour last year.
Anything else you want the world to know:
Thanks to everyone for supporting our company. We feel really lucky to still be growing and turning all of our dreams as a company into a reality. The more you support us, the more we’re going to be able to do for boardsports in the Northwest. I also want to thank all of our team riders. Everyone on the team is not only a great athlete, but a really great person to be around. All of our riders are really involved in pushing their sports and doing so in a really positive, responsible, professional, and creative way. We’re stoked to have them all aboard.
