Mike Kormondy
Mike "Mundy" Kormondy
Date of Birth: August 9, 1980
-foreword by Greg Young-
I met Mike a few years ago when a friend of mine invited him on a surf trip out to La Push. After hanging out with him for a few hours and listening to him tell some stories, it was obvious how passionate about surfing he was. He’s not just talk though, the guy can shred. Every surfer is different. A lot of them are real characters, loud and always wanting to be the center of attention. Others are total introverts, not wanting to get in a conversation with anyone they don’t know. Mike is just a guy that likes to surf. He doesn’t mind telling a story and cracking jokes in front of a crowd, but its not uncommon to see him sitting in the background with a smile on his face, not talking much, just being amused at what’s going on around him.
Mike works super hard at his job so he can save up and travel around the world surfing on his time off. He works for a company that builds expensive custom homes, so he always has a good story about crazy mansions with unique features that he’s helped build. Because of the nature of his job, he moves around from project to project, from Maui to Orcas Island to Cle Elum. Every time I talk to Mike he’s living in a new place, spending his spare time exploring the area and either surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, or hiking. He’s a rare breed...a nomad with a steady job.
You're probably wondering why we don't have any shots of Mike actually surfing. You're probably also wondering if the guy can surf at all. Well stop asking so many questions buddy. Mike's friends are smart. If the waves are good, they don't want to be on shore taking photos. They'd rather be in the water catching waves. Mike is a super good surfer. It is the same reason if you look at our photo albums for surf trips we've taken...you don't see many photos of anyone surfing. We don't have any photographers on staff, so if the waves are good we're all in the water. Don't believe us? We don't care. We got the waves...you didnt.
