Eddie Roberts
Eddie Roberts III (Edwin Earl)
Date of Birth: December 12, 1983
-foreword by Greg Young-
Eddie Roberts was born into a family with a rich waterskiing lineage. His grandpa (Eddie the 1st) is in his 90’s and still waterskis on a regular basis. His dad (Eddie II) was the original waterski shaper for HO skis and currently works doing the same thing for Radar skis. Our Eddie (Eddie III) grew up waterskiing and naturally ran in the direction of wakeboarding when it started to evolve in the early ‘90s. He is not only a really good rider, he is one of the most involved, passionate wakeboarders in the Northwest. He’s helped out with INT contests for years, and somewhat recently started a company called LakeSports where he organizes contests, movie premiers, and teaches wakeboard lessons on Lake Sammamish and Radar Lake. He’s not in it for anything other than seeing the sport he loves grow and evolve in a positive direction. Eddie is currently a student at Central Washington University getting his degree in recreation management. A lot of people want to start companies in the boardsports/actionsports industry, but not many are motivated enough to go to school and learn how to do it the right way. Eddie is one of the hardest workers out there and if you’ve ever been to any wakeboard event in the Northwest, there’s a good chance Eddie was involved to some degree in making it happen.
Eddie is a pretty random guy. I’ve been on a houseboat trip with him, a couple of short wakeboarding trips, a day or two of surfing, and other random day trips. He’s always up for an adventure and he seems to take trips pretty spontaneously, which always leaves him with some random stories to tell. I talked to him on the phone the other day and the conversation went like this:
Me: “Hey buddy, what have you been up to?”
Eddie: “Not much, just school and work. Oh, and I just got back from a week in Port Angeles shooting a commercial for Coors.”
Me: “What? How did that happen?”
Eddie: “I don’t know, I heard about it and decided to audition for it. I got the job, so I stayed in Port Angeles for awhile while we filmed this commercial. It was supposed to be me and a couple of buddies restoring an old boat. When we finished, we cracked open a cooler of ice cold Coors and celebrated.”
Me: “Huh?”
Eddie: “Yeah, random right? It’s going to air nationally in a couple of weeks.”
Yup, that pretty much sums up Eddie Roberts.
Favorite Color:
I’m a blue kind of dude, but teal if we’re talking specifics.

Turtles, the mutant ninja sort.
Favorite Travel Destination:
Waterskiing in the Gulf of Thailand for sure.
I’ve been Wakeboarding Since I Was:
6 ½ years old
Favorite Part of Wakeboarding:
Teaching someone to land a new trick for the first time and camping out at different lakes.
Least Favorite Part of Wakeboarding:
Sore knees at the end of the summer.
Favorite Subject in School:
Tourism and P.E.
Least Favorite Subject in School:

Other Hobbies:
Wrestling, Jiu-jitsu, and Video Games. Lately I’ve been getting into nun-chucks and throwing stars.
Worst Injury You’ve Ever Had:
Shattered my elbow at the Renton skate-park when a little kid ran in front of me at the top of a bowl I was hauling into. Tripped my feet and board at the top and pitched me about 8 feet headfirst to the flat bottom. Extremely grateful it was my elbow and not my head!
My Perfect Day Would Look Like: Waking up at the crack of dawn to go get the boat ready for a few hours of riding on Sammamish, and cruising to the tunes of Jimmy Buffett until the water gets choppy. Picking up an Emerald City Smoothie before heading up to Radar for an afternoon session. Longboarding some intense hills before it gets dark. Then enjoying some Italian or Thai food, and a bottle of wine with a lovely lady.
Top 5 Favorite Movies:
Gladiator, 300, Grandma’s Boy, Step Brothers, and Avatar
Most Played Bands on My iPOD:
The Eagles, Jimmy Buffett, Atmosphere, Blue Scholars, and NOFX
Best Job You’ve Ever Had:
Definitely teaching the Lake Sammamish Wakeboard School for MasterCraft Northwest and any kind of proshop sales.
Worst Job You’ve Ever Had:
Construction for sure, one summer I had to excavate and twist steel for the foundation for a 16,000 sq ft house in the hills of North Bend. It’ll make a man out of you though.
10 Words That Best Describe You:
Passionate, Radical, Intense, Motivated, Active, Seasonal, Goofy, Random, Jump-Kick, Round-House
