I’ve known Spencer for a long time. Actually, I can’t really remember when or how we met. It must have been at a boat show or something like that, probably when he was trying to sell us on sponsoring one of his videos. If that’s true, then maybe I haven’t known him for all that long. Who knows? Who cares? Spencer is one of my favorite people. He does what he does (makes wakeboard videos) because he loves it. Trust me, it’s not for the paycheck. Not only does he make awesome movies, but he also rips on a wakeboard.
Spencer is the easiest person ever to convince to go do something whether that's: surfing, wakeboarding, a road trip, hiking, or just keeping me company while I make sales trips or run errands. He loves to get out and do stuff. I’ve lost count of how many trips I’ve been on with him...eastern Washington several times, a couple weeks surfing in Baja, countless day trips out to the coast or up to the mountains, a long, cold, miserable night spent in a snow cave, longboarding down Hurricane Ridge...too much to keep track of.
When you go on trips with some people, you occasionally have to tailor the trip around that person. Avoiding food they hate, making sure they have a real bed to sleep in or a shower waiting for them every day. Basically, some people you just have to plan around or the trip will be miserable. With Spencer, you don’t even have to think about it. He doesn’t care. He just wants to be there doing something, and it doesn’t matter where you’re going or what you’re doing. In fact, I think he prefers being dirty. If I ever have an idea for a trip, Spencer is the first person I call.
